Njiko okwu (Conjunctions)

A conjunction helps to connect various parts of sentence together. Study this page to review some of the conjunctions found in the Igbo language.

although – ọ bụraba / ọ bụ ezie na

after – emechaa / n’ikpeazụ / n’eso

and – na / ma

as – ka / kwa / otu / dị ka

because/because of – maka /n’ihi na

before – tupu / tutu

both … and …. – ka … ka / ma … ma

but – manama / kama

even if – kama/ tuma

except – belụsọ / beelụ sọ

except that – mana

if – ma / ọ bụrụ na

instead of – kama / tuma

or – ma ọ bụ / ma ọ wụ

since – ka mgbe

so – kwa / maka

so that – ka  owere

than – ka / karịa

that – na / ka / mana

then – nta / mgbe ahụ

though – ọ dị ka / ọ bụlụgodu /ọ bụ ezie na

unless – genye na

until – tupu / tutu / ruo mgbe / emechaa

whether – mana

whether … or – ma … ma

while – ka / ebe
