Njiko okwu (Conjunctions)

A conjunction helps to connect various parts of sentence together. Study this page to review some of the conjunctions found in the Igbo language.

after – emechaa 

although – ọ bụ ezie na

and – na / ma

as – dịka

because/because of – maka /n’ihi na

before – tupu / tutu

both … and …. – ka … ka / ma … ma

but – mana

even if – ọbụrụgodu na

except – belụsọ / e wezụga

if – ma / ọ bụrụ na

instead of – kama 

or – ma ọ bụ / ma ọ wụ [If asking a question.… use ka ọ bụ / ka ọ wụ]

since – kemgbe

than – ka / karịa

though – ọ bụ ezie na

unless – genye na / beelụ ma

until – wee pụ / wee ganye na / genye na

whether … or – ma … ma

while – ka / ebe
