Ụbọchị Otu/Day 1
For day 1, I wanted to keep it short and sweet and simple! (Cheta, you don’t have to speak for long if you don’t want to! You can strive to speak for 1 minute if that’s what makes you comfortable!)
I want you to speak Igbo and try to introduce yourself. Tell us your name, age (if you want), where you live, what Igbo state you are from (if applicable), what you do (career/student), and 1-3 fun facts about yourself.
There are various ways to answer the above questions in Igbo, but here are some sample text you can use to get started in case you need help ….
Aha m bụ /My name is …..
Ebi m na… / I live in …
Esi m na… [Imo Steeti]. / I am from [Imo State].
A bụ m… / I am a (list your career).
(By the way, “gbsara m” means about me…this is where you can list some fun facts about you!)
Challenge Rules
-You don’t have to be perfect. Insert English if you have to. Just try to say one thing in Igbo. The goal of this challenge is to get comfortable hearing ourselves speak Igbo. 🙂
-Need help looking up words to say in Igbo? Check out my Top Igbo Resources page here to help you find resources to create your speaking sentences.
To qualify for a chance to win a free t-shirt from my shop, make sure you share your 3 audio recordings from each day either on your Instagram stories or Instagram feed by the end of the day on February 4 using the hashtag #SpeakIgboEzinaulo or tag me @ezinaulo.igbo so that I can find you. (If your account is on private, then send me a screenshot of the postings or you can just DM me privately your audio recordings!)
Technology Tips
-You can record yourself speaking Igbo using your phone video (not show yourself if you don’t want) or computer mic. There’s an app called DU Recorder that you can use to record your audio with the IG graphic in the background. Or you can just use your phone to record the graphic on the screen while you speak. You can also just record using the Instagram Stories features. You can also just post your audio on your IG feed!
-Follow me on Instagram @ezinaulo.igbo to check out my audio for each day of the Challenge!
Any questions? Let me know. Contact me here!
I look forward to listening to your audio!
